The Boys Are Hungry
Haimish & Alexander have all of a sudden come up with an appetite that cannot be filled. I get up in the morning and they are hungry, they each get half a can of Medi-Cal "Reducing Formula" in their dish, and a cup of Medi-Cal dry to snack on through the day. Lately the entire thing is eaten in one sitting.
When I get home about 9 hours later, you would think I was starving the lads. The first thing I got to do is put something new in the dish. In fact the dishes were emptied in about 10 minutes tonight. I don't know what is going to happen later.
It seems Alexander has to wolf down his food. I am sure some of this comes from him being a street boy before coming to live with me, but it only seems recently that he has to inhale the food without tasting now. I am not worried as both lads don't seem to be wasting away,
I just wish they would savor the moment and not eat like it is their last meal. Alexander even has got to pushing Haimish out of the way and eating his as well. It has got to the point, I got to feed them both at the same time, but in different location.
Nothing much more to tell, just wanted to update you all on the lads.
God Bless

2 Meow{s}:
Alexander likely eats like this -- as you said -- because he was a street cat and he fears there will never be another meal. The fact that Hammish is now acting that way too, probably means that Alexander has likely been eating his food for a while now so he's come to know hunger, too.
Does your cat food bag tell you what to feed your cat by weight/size, or age? It is size that should determine calorie intake (and vise versa), not age.
The boys get fed a half of can of medi-cal reducing formula in the morning with two cups of the dry. I feed the boys on the advice of my Veterinary. I don't go by the instructions on the bag.
In the evening the lads get another half a can each of cat food, but no dry.
You may be right with Haimish where he cannot eat and savor the moment. Nice how "Do onto others" also applies to the cats. Haimish used to push Roxy out of the way when they were being fed. This is when he was still a kitten. After he matured, he wasn't so mean as to be eating Roxy's food.
